Joanna Chen

Founding member of YouthMakerHub

Founder of YICA

 

Joanna is a community organizer.  She is the founding member of YouthMakerHub, she also founded YICA (Youth in Community Action).

 

While organizing activities through YICA, Joanna began to notice something powerful: there were many other young people who shared the same mission — to create positive change in their communities. Yet, they were working in insolation, why not build a platform that brings like-minded youth together — a space where they can collaborate, support one another, expand their collective influence, and grow stronger together?This is where the journey of YouthMakerHub began.

 

Beyond her leadership work, Joanna has a passion for baking. She often incorporates traditional festival foods into her community initiatives — using them not only to bring people together, but also to introduce and celebrate her Chinese heritage.

 

Beyond community initiatives, Joanna mentors middle school students in debate and critical thinking, perfectly reflecting the spirit of YouthMakerHub's Salmon Project: giving back, uplifting others and creating impact that comes full circle.

Shelly He

Founding member of YouthMakerHub

Founder of YICA

 

Shelly is a grade 10-driven student, community advocate, and emerging leader. She is the Founder of YICA (Youth in Community Action) and a core contributor to ArtParts, where she takes on an active leadership role by planning programs, teaching art, and guiding young participants through creative experiences that foster meaningful community engagement.

 

Through her involvement with the English Community Circle (ECC), Shelly has dedicated herself to supporting refugee children in Hamilton, helping them develop English language skills and find their footing within a new community. her work reflects a genuine commitment to inclusion and belonging. 

 

Academically and intellectually, Shelly has distinguished herself as her school's top debater, achieving the best result in this year's school showcase. It is a true reflection of her sharp critical thinking and the confidence she brings to every room she walks into.

 

Through advocacy, the arts, and civic engagement, Shelly exemplifies the vision and compassion of a young leader determined to make a lasting difference.

Rachel Xue 

Founder of Relemy Creations

Rachel is an active member of Youth Maker Hub and a young entrepreneur who founded Relemy Creations alongside her team. What started as a small creative idea has grown into a youth-led brand that promotes self-love, confidence, and individuality through handcrafted designs.

 

Driven by initiative and purpose, Rachel has led Relemy in supporting local churches, senior homes, and local hospital  through community events and charitable contributions.

 

Rachel perfectly represents the spirit of YouthMakerHub — turning creativity into enterprise, and ideas into community impact.

 

Rachel is a top-ranked student in her grade, particularly excelling in business and mathematics, reflecting her strong analytical thinking and dedication to learning.

 

Rachel has also been a dancer for over thirteen years,  she currently works as a dance mentor, providing training and guidance to young children. In 2024, she was honored with the Oakville Youth Artist Award in recognition of her creativity, discipline, and contributions to the arts.

Belle Chen 

 

Founding member of YouthMakerHub

 

Belle is a founding member of YouthMakerHub and an active participant in community initiatives. She has a strong passion for engineering design and enjoys turning creative ideas into practical solutions.

 

At YouthMakerHub, Belle plays a key role in platform development and serves as a communications and outreach ambassador, helping promote events and expand our network. Her dedication ensures that our projects reach and inspire more young change-makers.

 

Beyond community involvement, Belle also has a deep love for small animals and is a strong advocate for animal welfare, reflecting her compassion and sense of social responsibility.

Max Mo

 

Founder of Max's PC Repair Service 

 

Max is deeply passionate about technology and hands-on creation. He enjoys building and disassembling computers, designing and printing 3D models, and continuously exploring how things work.

 

Driven by initiative, he started his own computer repair service, helping individuals restore and revive their devices — giving products a second life while providing practical support to those in need.

 

Beyond his technical pursuits, Max is an active member of YouthMakerHub, he is a passionate community participant who contributes his skills to support local initiatives. Through innovation and service, he embodies the spirit of curiosity, responsibility, and contribution that defines Youth Maker Hub.

Xinru Lai

 

 

 

Xinru is a Grade 11 student at Oakville Trafalgar High School with a strong interest in music and technology leadership.

 

As an active member of YouthMakerHub, Xinru contributes to community initiatives through her passion for music, using it to connect and engage with others. Through this experience, she continues to develop her skills in public speaking and teamwork, growing through real-world collaboration.

 

At school, Xinru leads a competitive robotics team of over 80 members and founded the Girls in STEM Club to encourage more students to explore STEM.

 

Outside of her commitments, Xinru enjoys running and watching baseball, bringing energy and curiosity into everything she does.

Member Pathway 

 

 

Intern Member

 

Intern Members begin their journey by participating in projects and supporting team initiatives.

At this stage, members explore different projects, develop prractical skills, to gain hands-on experience and understand how Youthmakerhub projects operate.

 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in community projects and activities

  • Support team initiatives and events

  • Learn collaboration and project execution

  • Develop leadership and innovation skills

Milestone Achievement

Members who complete their first year receive the Growth Badge I.

Associate Member

 

Associate Members take on greater responsibility within projects and begin supporting the next generation of members.

 

They may lead specific tasks within projects with guidance from senior members.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage project tasks or small teams

  • Assist in organizing events and initiatives

  • Mentor Intern Members

  • Contribute ideas for new projects

 

 

Milestone Achievement

Members progressing to this level receive the Growth Badge II.

 

Manager Member

 

Project Manager Members are experienced leaders responsible for driving initiatives and coordinating teams.

 

They play a key role in shaping Youthmakerhub’s impact and community culture.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects or major initiatives

  • Coordinate cross-team collaboration

  • Represent Youthmakerhub in partnerships

  • Mentor junior members

 

Milestone Achievement

Members reaching this level receive the Growth Badge III and leadership recognition.

 

Star Members

 

Members who demonstrate outstanding leadership and contribution may be recognized as Star Members.

 

To qualify, members must:

  • Reach the Manager level

  • Earn six or more achievement badges

  • Demonstrate significant contribution to the Youthmakerhub community

 

Star Members are honored in the YouthMakerHub Lifetime Contribution Registry.

 

They may also receive support from the YouthMakerHub Scholarship Fund.

Members may earn recognition badges for contributions such as fundraising, partnerships, innovation, and community impact.
